Christmas in GA

This year was our first Christmas at our house and with a family of four. We decided not to go to AL which was a tough decision for us but we wanted to make memories of our own and for the boys to celebrate Christmas morning at their house. As much as we missed spending that day with our family, we really enjoyed our day at home.

Once we finally got Charlie to go to sleep Christmas Eve, we began putting all of their presents out under the tree. I had wrapped a few of them but we left the big ones unwrapped. I got tickled at Daniel as he had to have the presentation just right. He remembers as a child that his gifts were always set in some kind of scene. I don't remember waking up with gifts under the tree as my family spent Christmases in TN at my grandparents' house. The Christmases I remember were after I knew the truth of Santa so our presents were all wrapped and were usually opened the night before we left for TN. So this Christmas Eve was a new experience for me and boy did Daniel and I have fun.

We tried to position toys so that when Charlie woke up, he wouldn't automatically see them and go running into the family room without us. He always comes to our room and wakes me up when he gets up. Luckily, Christmas morning was no exception. He climbed into bed with us for a little bit and then wanted to go eat breakfast. We woke Daddy up and while Charlie took a pit stop at the potty and I changed clothes, Daniel went in, turned on the tree and grabbed the camera. I woke Philip up and off we went into the family room. Here is the reaction...
Charlie had a blast opening gifts and we had a blast watching him! Philip was oblivious to the whole day but what else would you expect from a 4 month old? He did, however, get to open gifts just as Charlie did. The big gifts of the day were a big wheel and an activity gym...
Mr. Terry and Ms. Kathy came to visit for a little while. They got to play many games of Uno Moo with Charlie...
Pics from Christmas morning...

Our afternoon was spent playing in the snow (that will be another post) and making/decorating cookies...once we got Charlie away from the toys...

We had a big dinner then played some more. Charlie got to play with his new tub toy and then it was like pulling teeth to get him to go to bed. What a great Christmas we had!

I was thinking back on the day and am so thankful for the many blessings God has given us. Daniel is employed. I am lucky to get to stay home with the boys each day. We are able to spend money on our boys. We have a roof over our heads and have a pantry/fridge full of food. We are truly blessed in this world. But, most importantly we have a God who loves us and provides for us as well as a Savior who died for all of us. That was the ultimate gift.

milestones

Charlie and Philip have had some great milestones the last few weeks...

I started Philip on solid foods last Tuesday. He took to it like a pro. Ok, maybe not a pro but better than I expected him to. To my excitement, it has made him sleep better during the day. He's a good sleeper at night but he's been taking a good nap right after lunch. He has worked his way up to a couple of teaspoons of rice cereal each feeding. As much as I don't want to jinx it, Charlie has been doing much better with potty training lately. Last Tuesday and Wednesday, Charlie used the potty at school! Hallelujah! This has been an ongoing battle. Also, he's doing better with going poo poo in the potty. He has gotten his football guys back, his cards back and his little blocks back...all in the last week!

One of the milestones Daniel and I got really excited about was that Charlie learned how to pedal while we were in AL for Thanksgiving. He got a hand-me-down big wheel from his cousin, Branson. It was pouring rain outside when he got it and convinced Gram and Papa to let him ride it inside. The next morning, it was the first thing he wanted to do when he woke up. Needless to say, he's now unstoppable...
I bet I know what he's getting for Christmas! :)

Fishing with Grandpa

One of the many highlights of Charlie's Thanksgiving in AL was getting to go fishing for the first time. And, it was Grandpa that took him. They went to the lake in my parents' neighborhood. I tagged along just to snap some pictures and relive the memories of all the times I went fishing with my dad. Those were some great times for me...just me and my dad. I still enjoy going fishing but I miss that time with my dad more.

Charlie got to finally use the fishing pole Grandpa got him for his birthday. We just never got around to playing with it and I really wanted him to experience that with my dad. So after fishing in the yard for a little while, we hopped in dad's truck and rode to the lake. After a few casts in the lake, Grandpa caught Charlie his first real fish. Charlie helped to reel it in but wouldn't dare touch it...

Thanksgiving 2010

We spent the week of Thanksgiving in AL. It was a busy week going back and forth between grandparents, great grandparents and the rest of the family but we wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Daniel and I got some relaxing time since the grandparents are always excited to spend time with the boys. Granted, Philip can't be away from mama very long but I think the only time I really held him was for him to eat and when he just needed some mama time. Charlie, on the other hand, got lots of time with them, especially Papa and Grandpa. My mom and Daniel's mom both worked a few of the days we were there so their time with the boys was at night. Charlie was most difinitely spoiled by Papa while we were there. He got to spend a whole day just the two of them on Monday of that week. Charlie was excited because he got to ride in a different car seat in Papa's truck. I don't really know where all they went but I heard something about Uncle Jimmy's farm, breakfast at Hardee's, lunch with Gram, and I'm sure that's isn't everywhere they went! I (well, Philip and I) spent that day in Dothan shopping and Daniel spent the day with his high school buds. A couple other mornings Charlie went on adventures with Papa too. Thanksgiving night was spent at Daniel's Uncle Jimmy's barn for dinner. That is always some good eatin! It is all of Daniel's extended family on his mom's side that get together. The Thanksgiving meal with my family was eaten on Saturday. My sister had to work on Friday and we try not to do two meals in one day on Thursday so that's just how it worked out.

My sister-in-law took family pictures while we were in AL. I'll share those with you soon. She got some really cute ones!

Philip - 4 months old

Philip turned 4 months old on Saturday, the 27th. He's just growing by leaps and bounds. He's doing much better with holding his head up and can do so for a while now. Philip eats and sleeps like a champ. You can tell he's eating well just by looking at him. And, yes, it's still just mama's milk. Naps during the day are getting longer and we're down to two, sometimes three, naps a day and he'll sleep for about 8 hours at night.

Philip has begun to grasp things. He's not reaching for much yet but if you hand him something, he will grab it most of the time. He's become great friends with the elephants hanging on his bouncy seat. I'm anxious for him to begin talking to them. He has begun to make cute little baby sounds and has such a cute laugh. Charlie had him cackling the other night by playing peek-a-boo with him. Philip's easy-going and content wherever he is, just like his daddy. He only fusses when he's hungry which I think he gets from his mommy.

We visited the pediatrician yesterday for Philip's 4 month well check-up. Only two shots and an oral vaccination. He's at 17 lbs. 14.4 oz (upper 90%). His length is 27 inches (97%) and his head circumference is 17 3/4 inches (97%). Philip was doing all the things they asked me like grasping things, sounds, rolling over, etc.

Turkey Day feast

Charlie and his turkey...

The Friday before Thanksgiving, Daniel, Philip and I joined Charlie at his school for a Thanksgiving feast. Charlie was excited to have me stay but was overjoyed that his daddy was there. Before we ate, all the kids performed for us. Here is the video of Charlie's performance with his class, the PreK4 class and the Toddler 1 & 2 classes:

Philip and Khaki

Be sure to look for the tongue!

pew packers

Every Sunday, our minister, Neil, does a little program with the little ones for about 10 minutes before pm services start. He calls it Pew Packers. Charlie looks forward to this every week. We've been working on some of the things they've been learning.
In case you can't understand Charlie...
What are you going to be when you grow up? A faithful Christian.
Who are you going to marry? A faithful Christian.
What's God's purpose for your life? To glorify Him.
What is true success? Living your life and going to heaven.
What is true failure? Living your life and not going to heaven.
There are 66 books in the Bible. There are 27 in the NT and 39 in the OT.

my roly poly

Philip decided it was time to do some rolling. I guess it is about that time. :( Not that my little boy is little but I was hoping he wouldn't get to these milestones quite so quickly. He rolled from his back to his front on Friday the 5th. I had come home for just a few minutes before I had to go pick up Charlie from school and laid Philip on his pallette. I walked to the back and soon heard Philip fussing. I just assumed he didn't want to lay there but when he kept on, I walked up front to check on him. He was laying on his belly rubbing his face in the blanket! I missed it! I had noticed him rolling from side to side the few days before but never expected it to happen that fast.

I managed to get a video of him rolling over today. Just know three things: 1. I have a camera hog in my house. 2. Charlie rarely wears pants at home. (just in case you were wondering) and... 3. I apologize for the bare legs and hiney shots. :)

tired daddy

I always thought I would only get these kind of shots of Charlie falling asleep playing with his toys...not daddy. I was busy doing something on the computer while Charlie and Daniel were in his room playing cars. Charlie comes walking up to me and says, "Mommy, I'm ready for my bath." I replied, "Ok. Daddy can take care of that." To my surprise, Charlie says, "Daddy's asleep." I thought Daniel was joking with Charlie but...nope, sound asleep.

to nap or not to nap...

I told Charlie yesterday that he didn't have to take a nap but that he had to sit and be quiet for a little while. (He had been fighting me on the subject.) He was watching TV...
So much for no nap! :)

Elba - Nov 2010

We took a trip to AL to celebrate our nephew's 9th birthday. Happy birthday Branson! He just had a family party with us and then celebrated with a few friends the next day. Here are a few pics...
Charlie enjoyed playing with Branson's big truck. I think Gram and Papa may have it on Charlie's Christmas list!

I ended up staying a few extra days longer than Daniel. (One of the advantages of being a stay-at-home mom) He drove back on Sunday and I, with the boys, stayed until Thursday. It wore us all out but we had a great time!

One of the many highlights of Charlie's time in Elba is riding the golf cart with Papa. Papa rides him through the "jungle" and into the big woods. Charlie gets excited to knock down the trees with the golf cart. I guess anything taller than you are would be considered trees! By the end of the week, all the "trees" were flat to the ground and a nice path had been worn around the house. I think Papa would give up every inch of grass he had for that boy though!
With Grandpa, Charlie's favorite pasttime is riding his bike. Dad pushes him all over the place. He's been trying to get Charlie to push the pedals so I've been holding off on getting any video until he gets a hang of it a little better.

Philip just went with the flow. Whatever goes goes. Both my boys have been that way as babies. Lucky, I know.

Aunt Laura and Uncle Jimmy came to visit...
We also visited Daniel's grandmother a couple of times. (I think I need to visit her more often. She sends chocolate cake home with you!) Both boys were in such a good mood to see her. Philip just talked and cooed at her. It's such a joy to watch other people enjoy my boys. Here are a few pictures from our visit...
