Poor Khaki...We had to put the cone on her because she has apparently taken up a new nervous habit of licking. She has a sore on her leg that she won't leave alone. Since she won't leave a bandage on it, we had to resort to the cone. She's been wearing it for about a week and a half.

9 month check-up
Charlie went for his 9 month check-up last Friday. He only had to get one shot this time. Everything went well. The nurse and pediatrician just asked the usual questions such as bedtimes, naptimes, what time we wakes in the mornings, is he on solid food, is he eating well, can he crawl, can he clap his hands together, does he respond to his name, can he pick things up using the pincer grasp, is he saying things like da-da and ba-ba, etc. Those are the main ones I can remember. If interested, here are the answers to all the above questions: - Bedtime is around 8:30 p.m.
- Charlie takes two naps during the day, which normally last around an hour.
- He usually wakes up around 8:00 a.m.
- He is eating lots of solid food. He is on to eating pureed meat along with his veggies. His veggies include green split peas, carrots, green beans, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, and squash, all cooked by yours truly! yay! He even ate beets the other day. I couldn't get up the nerve to try them. :) I've got some aspargus in the fridge that needs to be cooked. We'll see if he likes it too. He hasn't turned his nose up at anything yet, which I am thankful.
- So I guess you could say he is eating well.
- He can't quite crawl yet but is learning. He's still doing the military crawl (on the belly).
- He doesn't clap his hands together yet but now that I know he should be doing it soon, I've been trying to get him to do it constantly, mainly with pat-a-cake.
- Charlie does respond to his name when he wants to.
- He can pick things up using the pincer grasp (thumb and pointer finger) but not as well as you or I can.
- We are hearing sounds similar to da-da and ba-ba but you have to really be listening.
Here are Charlie's measurements from his check-up:
Weight: 19 pounds 12 ounces (45%)
Height: 28 1/2" (75%)
Head Circumference: 18 1/2" (90%)
Charlie has figured out how to use his sippy cup. I was watching him tonight at dinner turn the cup up. It's amazing the little things that mean so much. I also got him to hold his own bottle today. I knew he had the capability since he loves to play with cups. He just has never really had to do it on his own. I left Wal-Mart today and knew that Charlie needed to nurse. I didn't want to sit in the car and feed him his bottle so I just fixed it, put his hands on it where he could hold it, and let go. He did well for the most part. He's still learning to turn it up. It was nice because I was able to get in the car and leave with him in his seat drinking his bottle on his own.
Well, that's alot more than I had planned on posting. Sometimes it just keeps coming.

9 months old!
As of Monday, Charlie is now 9 months old! We've had fun the last week or so watching him learn to crawl...well, really it's slithering, but I'm sure it will be crawling soon. Here's a couple of videos so you can see for yourself...
Charlie is able to support his own weight on his feet now. He just has no balance though so you have to still keep your hands on him. He is content to sit and play on his mat with his toys for a little while now. (This means I can take a potty break without toting him with me.) :) He loves music and he absolutely loves books. He loves to turn the pages. One of the ladies that keeps him on Sunday mornings during Sunday school mentioned to me the other day that he loves books. I just grinned and nodded. He has this noisy farm book that he just squeals and giggles over. I'll try and get it on video and post it. It's really funny to watch him.
Charlie's eating well and has taken quite well to the homemade baby food. He really just enjoys being able to eat off my plate and drink out of my cup. He's able to eat foods that can be mashed so I don't have to puree everything. This has caused him not to nurse as often but I guess that's part of him learning to eat solid food.
Charlie is still sleeping well through the night. We try and give him a bath at 8:00 and put him to bed after that. He will normally sleep until 8:00 the next morning. Sometimes, he wakes an hour or so after he's gone to sleep. Somehow, we manage to get him back down and he will sleep till morning. And, sometimes, like last night, it's impossible to get him to go back to sleep (or I just get tired of trying) and he gets to sleep in the bed with Daniel and me.
No teeth yet. You can see the bottom two under the gums but they haven't cut through. Well, I think that's about it. Here is a picture I took of Charlie on Sunday in his "looking good" clothes...
One more thing...Charlie got his first "boo boo" yesterday. I had him sitting on the floor in front of the couch, playing. I had pushed the coffee table out some but apparently not enough. I, inevitably, looked away for a second and bam! he knocked his forehead on the lower shelf of the coffee table. I felt awful! It hurt my heart so bad! So, in the usual monthly pictures, you can see the evidence on his forehead...
