birthday parties

I guess we have finally entered the world of endless kids' birthday parties. We had two this past weekend. One was for a friend of mine's son's second birthday. We got to know this couple at a mutual friend's wedding back in March. Daniel and Matt were both groomsmen and Becky and I were at all the showers for the bride-to-be. So, needless to say, we're now close. We've tried to get together to let the boys play but haven't suceeded yet.

Anyway, they had his party at a miniature farm in Canton. Charlie was very hesitant of the animals. He enjoyed looking at them from afar (like behind a fence or on my hip) but if you tried to get him to pet or feed them, he cried and screamed. By the end of the tour through the farm, we was warming up to them as you can see in the pics. He was ok with the little sheep and goats but if one approached him that was his height, he pitched a fit and wanted up. Charlie never fed any of them. He just would let them get close to them. His favorite animal at the farm was...you guessed it...the dog. They had one in the sheep pen. After the tour was cake! It was a cute little farm animal themed cake that had Little People farm animals on top. Charlie enjoyed this part! It was a very hot and humid day and I was pouring sweat by the time we left around lunch but we had fun. Charlie almost immediately fell asleep in the car. It just wore him out! But, it got us out and exposed Charlie to something new. Thanks to Becky and Matt for inviting us to celebrate the little one's birthday!

The second party we went to on Saturday was for our next door neighbor. She turned 6. They just had a little get together at their house for family and a few friends. Since Charlie took a nap in the car on the way home, we were able to go and stay a while. (The party was scheduled for the same time as his usual naptime.) Charlie was in familiar territory so he made himself at home no matter how many new people were there. And, once Nathan got up from his nap, Charlie was beside himself. Nathan and Charlie get to play together almost every Thursday.

Daniel's day was full with the party in the morning and then setting up for the Last Blast Summer Olympics at church. This event took place on Sunday. (That post to follow this one.) He was there ALL afternoon. I stayed home so that Charlie could finish out his nap and we could make it to the party at 2:00. Daniel was supposed to come home and join us but there was just too much to do to get ready for the big event.
