Anglesey Abbey

August 17, 2013 - We visited Anglesey Abbey, just outside of Cambridge.  It is another National Trust property.  The web describes it as a "Jacobean-style house with gardens and a working watermill".  It began as a priory (or monastery) in the 1100's but was acquired around 1600 and converted to a private residence.  It kept changing and expanding from there...

The interiors are just as impressive.  It was furnished in the 1920's by Lord Fairhaven.

I was quite taken with the statues in the library (as you'll see by the amount of pictures I took!).  They just show such movement in a still object!  Beautiful!

The gardens are extensive...98 acres.  So you can't visit everything when here.  What we did see and wander through were beautiful.  There are statues, etc., unexpectedly around every corner.

Part of the grounds is a treehouse and play area.  The kids certainly had fun here!

There is also a working mill on site.  It's called Lode Mill.  You can buy flour from the shop inside.  We toured it and got to see how the flour is made.

This property will be one we visit again!  There was so much we didn't get to see.
