CW - no training wheels!

Almost a month ago, Charlie decided he didn't want training wheels on his bike anymore.  So, Daniel took them off and Charlie gave it a go...without much luck...
He got frustrated really fast as most kids do I'm sure.

Daniel was discussing this with one of his colleagues and he offered to loan us his daughter's balance bike.  It is a bike with no pedals.  So Charlie has been riding/perfecting it for the last few weeks and got pretty confident on it.  I took this video just a few days ago...
I think Charlie got a little more motivation when he saw one of the kids from next door, Matthew, riding his bike at the park a few days ago without training wheels.  (On a side note:  The kids that live next door are Natasha, Matthew and Daniel.  Ages 8, 5 and 2 1/2.  Charlie and Philip have become FAST friends with them.)  So, Charlie has continued a little here and there to try and pedal his bike without training wheels.  Daniel and I kept saying we needed to take him to the park and work with him and he'd have it pretty quickly but we just hadn't made the time.  I took him once a couple of weeks ago and it was just pure torture for both of us...me running behind and Charlie whining the whole way.

This morning, Charlie was out playing in the back garden as usual.  Philip was upstairs playing with cars.  Daniel and I were enjoying a few moments of quiet when Charlie comes in and tells us to come outside that he rode his bike without training wheels.   And, he was so excited!  We walked outside to this...

The kid figured it out on his own!

Daniel then lowered the seat on the balance bike and gave it to Philip.  I explained to Charlie that now that he could ride the big bike without training wheels that we were going to let Philip ride the balance bike from now on.  This was his reaction...
We decided that to help Charlie that we should go to the park where he could have more room to ride.  Our neighbors were there so Charlie, Philip, Natasha and Matthew all rode their bikes around the park for a while.  I was just amazed at how fast Charlie picked it up.  I guess he was ready.
Off you go, my big boy...
